Overview
This open-frame AC-DC supply contains input filtering, rectification, a transformer, heatsink-mounted semiconductors, output capacitors, and board connectors. High-voltage input circuitry and the isolated low-voltage side occupy the same PCB, which makes workmanship around their boundary a central production concern.
Manufacturing Challenge
The transformer and heatsinks carry more mass and need more soldering energy than the surrounding parts. Rectifiers and electrolytic capacitors are polarity-sensitive. Protruding leads, solder bridges, misplaced hardware, or residue can also reduce the spacing built into the electrical design.
Manufacturing Approach
Pre-production review covers the BOM, transformer specification, fuse and protection parts, polarity, connector pinout, heatsink hardware, and the creepage and clearance values defined by the design. SMT processing is followed by controlled insertion of the transformer, filters, capacitors, connectors, and power devices. Inspectors check solder fill, trimmed leads, insulation pieces, cleanliness, hardware condition, and the isolation area. Power-up takes place in a current-limited, safety-controlled fixture before load or thermal testing.
Result
Before installation, the input filter, conversion stage, isolation transformer, and regulated output remain accessible for visual and electrical checks. The same route suits other custom power supplies only when the released manufacturing package includes their safety design and test limits.
